Skiers and riders in the Pikes Peak region have another reason to celebrate: Monarch Mountain will open for the season Friday. The ski area that's beloved by so many in southern Colorado will begin operating four lifts. Monarch officials last week reported a midmountain base of 21 inches, allowing for skiing and snowboarding on 432 acres. Lifts will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. "We're thrilled that we're able to open for the Thanksgiving holiday," general manager Randy Stroud said in a news release. "We have an incredible team, and we're more than excited to get the season started." Read more on Colorado Springs Gazette ......
